metal removal old west style

I never thought I would have the opportunity to remove large pieces of metal from the flesh of a man. Like the old west when ‘Doc’ puts some wisky soaked plyers into a wound and comes up with a bullet that he ceremoneously drops into a metal container.

Voila, a patient of mine works at a machine that ‘occasionally will shoot out nickle sized slugs.* he came to the office with two of them in his arm. I used surgical instruments ( a kelly) instead of plyers, which were sterilized instead of wisky soaked, but I did drop them ceremoneously in a metal kidney tray. It was  a very satisfying sound.

Today I had the  pleasure of removing part of an ax head from someones hand. He got it decades ago while chopping wood. He did not worry about it but now needs an MRI and cant get that until it was removed. Unlike the old west, I numbed the area before cutting and removing, but still managed a very satisfying removal.

One more thing to add to my collection. As you can tell I am easily amused.

*I have no idea why he works near a machine that sends misiles at a suficient speed to penetrate muscle.
