revisiting the past

Continuing the issue of billing. One of the latest money grabs that insurance companies are expanding is going back into the distant past and revisiting the claim. They decide that they should not have paid the claim and they take the money back.

Practically speaking there is nothing we can do. They are currently working 2007. Usually they will claim that the patient was not covered that day. There is no way for us to check. the patients themselves dont remember what insurance they had two years ago. they certainly do not have their insurance cards from that time.

Our only recourse would be to drop the insurance althogether. It is somewhat akin to going out of business because of a small robery. Which essentially it is. If we arent allowed to bill after 1 year( see yesterday’s post), they should not be allowed to revisit their decision to pay. When they pay we have to accept that the information the patient gave us is correct and all the billing is correct, why would they have paid, if they werent?
